BIOSKILLS
Our residents have the opportunity to delve further into any procedure or familiarize themselves with anatomy with access to the state-of-the-art cadaver lab at the Northwell Health Bioskills Education Center. Utilizing fresh-frozen cadavers, the residents participate in regularly- scheduled dissection lab sessions throughout the year. Recent Bioskills education topics include:
- Facial Feminization
- Male-to-female gender reassignment
- Workhorse flaps (RFF, Rectus abdominus, ALT, SCIP, DCIA)
- Essential craniofacial procedures (Monobloc advancements, genioplasty, BSSO, split calvarium harvest)
- Upper extremity flaps
- Free fibula
- Chest Vessel Dissection for DIEP recipients
In addition to sessions conducted by house attendings, our visiting professors often take the residents into the lab for a hands-on learning experience on the day of their visit. A list of visiting professors can be found here.
